nikolai's body was shaking - not violently as though sick - just lightly out of fear of his sleep terrors. they'd woken him again, and so early in the morning. he shifted a little as he stood next to his bed, hugging himself. he hated it here. he hated being alone when he woke up. carefully he looked around before resting a hand upon his stomach as it growled. he squirmed at the sound and the feel before slowly making his way towards the kitchens, treading lightly and trying to not make a single sound. He really didn't want any unwanted attention. be it from whore's or murderers. he just wanted to eat.

due to his lack of ability when it came to most languages he often made most people angry - though i'm sure it was mostly unintentional since he hated to be shouted at. besides, he was surprisingly fluent in three languages and could hold a decent conversation in a fourth. not bad for a kidnapped rich kid. he sniffed a little as he walked. he was naked apart from his boxers as he snuck through the building and into the kitchen, sniffing for fresh meat. he was really hungry, but he really really didn't want to get shouted at again so was trying his hardest not to attack a human and just find something like beef.

beef was alright he guessed, as long as it wasn't cooked. bleh. anything cooked was horrible to him and quite a few times had made him sick. he sniffed around some more as he made it into the kitchen. being quiet short and thin he was easily able to squeeze into awkward places in his hunt for something that smelled good. something other than people or the bowl of strawberries he'd spotted in the fridge. his stomach growled again, lowered this time and more urgently. nikolai whined a little and kept looking not needing to turn on a light. he stopped though when he heard a noise and moved quickly to hide.

It was late enough for most people to be asleep but not Zilya. She had a tendency to wake up in the middle of the night and feel the need to leave her room. Staying in there would have just been boring and pointless. She wasn't entirely sure where she was headed but the last time she was out, she ended up in the common room and met a guy.. It had gone well but tonight was a little different. She was still careful to not run into any staff members who might have her go back to her room. That was exactly what happened before but this time, Zilya was quiet as a mouse, or at least she hoped she was.

She got to the kitchen, feeling like having a piece of fruit or something healthy enough. It wasn't that she stuck to a healthy died. The girl was a big fan of ice cream and chocolate but everything in moderation. That was one of the things that her mother had taught her before she died.

Finding the kitchen, Zilya avoided the light switch. Hoping to keep from drawing any unwanted attention. Being this late at night, all she was in was a giant t-shirt and nothing else. It wasn't much but she didn't expect to run into anyone here. She move to the fridge and opened it, the light filling just a small section of the room and she grabbed the bowl of strawberries and shut the door. Turning around, the blonde bit into one of them, still thinking she was alone here.

nikolai shifted in his hiding place, making no noise as he peered through the darkness watching zilya. he sniffed a few times before being unable to control himself as he licked his lips, crawling out of his hiding place slowly trying not to make a sound that would alert the other of his being there. he stilled instantly when he found another spot of darkness. really, the only thing in the darkness that might get him spotted was the almost pale golden tinge of his skin - seeing as his hair and boxers were both black and blended in quite well. he crawled a little before scurrying quickly into another hiding place, his eyes instantly fixing upon zilya once he felt himself safely hidden. he shifted his weight a little, moving animal like and silent in the darkness. the level five label he'd been given couldn't be more true. because niko couldn't help himself at all. his hands gripped the side of a cold bench as he peered over.

he tilted his head at the sight, trying to work out what was going on. his eyes were showing him a woman, but his nose was picking up a male smell to. he shifted again before sliding up onto the counter, crouching there in the darkness, just watching zilya for a moment as his stomach growled. a darkness flashed in niko's eyes as he let out a growl to match his stomach's noise, clambering his way over to zilya. he stopped by the other and sniffed once more, brows narrowing as he still couldn't work it out before he reached a hand over grabbing - for the moment - for the bowl of strawberries. "mine." he muttered, choosing russian for once rather than the usual french. why french? because of course that was the main language the cornett's spoke so it'd once again become second nature to niko to speak it. after all, it was technically his 'mother tongue'.

he perched there on the edge of the counter next to the fridge, feet spread ever so slightly, positioned in a way where it would be easy for him to balance. his eyes were fixed on zilya rather than the strawberries, clearly he'd much rather have the other for his meal than strawberries. but, at the same time, he didn't want to get in trouble so this was a massively hard choice for the teen. his instincts told him to take a bite out of zilya, but his feelings were trying their hardest to hold back the instinct, really wanting another visit from his precious 'herr guard'. "you... smell funny." he added after a moments thought, in french this time not knowing the russian word for 'funny'. he made a sound of discomfort as his stomach growled once more. he hissed at it, annoyed by the noise since it was something that couldn't simply be muffled out.

Zilya's night vision was fairly average. She could make things out enough to get around but only at close distances and only if there was enough moon light pouring through the window. Tonight wasn't quite as bright so noticing anything out of the ordinary was unlikely to happen.

Having gotten the bowl of strawberries, Zilya shut the fridge door. She didn't think she would need the light for anything. It was quiet in here and there was no reason to think she would need it.

The blonde was still completely oblivious to the quietly moving creature in the dark. She sat down in front of the table, placing the bowl down in front of her. She placed the strawberry stem down, moving to take another but her heart just about stopped and Zilya almost fell out of her chair at the sound and the hand reaching out. "Bozhe moi! [[My god!]]," she exclaimed in Russian. A hand on her heart in shock.

It was just a guy.. Just a guy, Zilya told herself, trying to calm down but then he spoke something in a foreign language.. French? "I don't understand," she said in English this time but her Russian accent was still there in every syllable.

She heard his stomach rumbling and pushed the bowl of strawberries toward him. He probably needed it more than she did. He was acting so strange but this school had some people in it who were a little different. Zilya had no problems with accepting that.

nikolai was more than accustomed to the dark, in fact it was light he wasn't a huge fan of. i'm not saying he's a vampire or something like that, because he loved sunshine as much as the next guy. but bright artificial lights hurt his eyes and made him feel trapped, not that he knew why they just did. though not an animal and not raised out in the wild his movements were still fluid like an animals - and in the dark he made about the same amount of noise as a cat when he moved. it was creepy yeah, but it was just natural for him to move the way he did, and easier to in his opinion - which he'd voiced on multiple occasions to his younger brother and to julian. they were the only one's who would and could properly listen to him. the therapists and stuff here tried, but they couldn't understand him and he just wasn't grasping english at all. not that he was trying very hard.

he was quite good with languages, in his and julian's opinion, since he still remembered french and german even after not speaking them for so long. but his smarts must be optional since he couldn't even say hello in english. though he did sort of understand certain english words and phrases enough to translate them in his mind into something he understood. he blinked, jumping himself as she spoke. he took a step back, tense and startled. he growled a little as though warning her to spot being so loud. he didn't want to be caught in here at this hour. he tilted his head a little though, understanding her exclamation. he climbed off the counter and stood normally before scowling slightly at the english, taking a moment to translate it mentally. rather than trying to repeat himself he just shook his head, eyes still fixed on her though he was no longer scowling.

"you're russian?" he questioned, returning to russian since he knew she knew that one. he blinked and jerked slightly as the strawberries were pushed to him. he hesitated for a moment before grabbing a handful and eating them, sitting down on the floor to do so. he liked it down here though wasn't sure why. i mean, it wasn't like he ever had to sit on floors to do anything but play - apart from once or twice over the years he was missing. so really it was just a quirk of his. he preferred to sit on the floor to eat or drink anything. "Do you speak german?" he asked her after a moment, half-eaten strawberry in hand as he stared up at her face, licking his lips a little because he really did like strawberries. he knew the strawberries wouldn't be enough, but didn't know of any way to obtain a fresh meat kill, without getting himself in trouble. he shifted, already trying to sniff out meat.

He seemed to jump a little at her voice which was probably a good sign at a subconscious level. If he could be startled by something she did then it made him just a little less frightening. She was still too much in shock over his sudden appearance to notice anything else about this situation. She just stared for a moment wondering what it was he wanted. He was in a kitchen, it was probably just food that he was after.. Easy enough to fix.

He had growled a little but then she had been just a tiny bit too loud for being down here in the middle of the night. She was just caught off guard, it couldn't be helped but now that she was aware of his presence, she quietened down. The last thing she needed was for something to come and tell her she had to go back to her room. There was just nothing to do there.

From what little she could make out, he didn't look too happy about the English.. It took a second to realize that the first word he spoke to her was in Russian. That would have been easier for her. Russian or German worked much better than English. She was more confident with it than English but then being here, it was sort of expected.

She nodded at his question, no sure she wanted to open her mouth again and speak. He seemed odd... Or he was just acting very strangely. Zilya wasn't sure if this was just how he was or if it was a singular occurrence.

The blonde watched him take the strawberries, looking almost like a wild animal. It was strange but she just watched, hoping he wasn't really as dangerous and her imagination might think.

He sat down on the floor, her eyes immediately averting, realizing he wasn't wearing very much at all... And neither was she! She pulled at the large t-shirt, hoping to bring it down a little lower. It was a bit awkward now but she said nothing until he asked his question. "Of course I do," [[Italics for German ]]she said in German this time. "I prefer it to English," she admitted, still not looking directly at him because.. well, he was in boxers and it just wasn't polite to stare! Not that she would stare... Zilya bit her lip lightly, the awkwardness setting in again as she pulled at the long t-shirt once more.

nikolai was aware that he was different. but he didn't think he was a bad person, not entirely anyway. normal people ate cows and things when they were cooked he just preferred raw meat, sometimes human meat. but that wasn't his fault, and it wasn't like his family hadn't tried to help him change. but all the money and different chefs and nutritionist in the world hadn't helped him obtain a normal died. he just couldn't seem to stomach anything other than strawberries, raw meat, water, milk and sometimes wine. well come on, he's french royalty by gene's so of course he's going to be stereotypical to that point, since he doesn't look or act like the stereotypical drop-dead-gorgeous french man. though as well as french he had german ancestors and no doubt an army of 'fans' back in france - and possibly germany to. after all he was their 'príncipe perdido'.

the lost prince - even though by technicality he wasn't a prince just a rich kid but it still stands. he was famous back home, but not here. why would he be famous here? this was america the apparently 'land of the free and home of the brave'... or however it goes. he was neither free nor brave. not in here anyway. no one here was free in his opinion. he'd already noticed that some people really didn't want to be here, he didn't quite know why but at least he was aware that this maybe wasn't the best place. however, his mother had chosen it to try and get him some help. so far it wasn't really working but oh well, give it time. nothing ever really works quickly does it? not that it matters as long as there's a positive result in the end, right? no matter how long it takes to get to the end. plus it wasn't like his family were short of money at all so they could afford to send him here for a few years.

he shifted a little as he sat there on the floor, eating the strawberries to try and calm down his hunger for the time being, noticing already that their wasn't much meat on zilya anyway to even if he could eat her without getting in trouble it likely wouldn't be enough for him. he tilted his head some as he listened before perking up and smiling at her, "i can't speak english. but mama taught me german when i was little." nikolai responded, also speaking german, "i'm nikolai." he nodded. he shifted and slowly stood once more, licking his hands once he's eaten all the strawberries, eventually he settled for wiping his hands on his boxers when he felt like he'd gotten all the strawberry taste off them. that done he looked over zilya again and noticed her pulling at her t-shirt. "i wasn't looking, promise.2 he assured her having little to no interest in such a thing.

Zilya was self-conscious. It wasn't a common occurrence but it did happen. Last time she had been out in the middle of the night, he had run into a guy and she had been wearing the same sort of thing but she hadn't even thought about it then. The thought never even occurred to her but then the situation was different and things progressed quite differently to what they were right now. He had spoken German too and Russian but he smiled a lot and he gave her compliments and distracted her... That was probably why it hadn't occurred to her.. That and he had been wearing more clothes this guy was right now.. Maybe that was it.

Zilya nodded at his words, still too self-conscious around this guy to even smile. "My mother would speak to me in German sometimes," she said. It was really just to practice. She had learned it in school but would practice it with her mother who spoke it fluently. "I'm Zilya," she told him. He barely seemed to noticed how little he was wearing, or at least he didn't seem to care at all despite being around a complete stranger. Zilya did smile a little at the statement. "I know," she said. "It's just me, I get self-conscious sometimes.. I have a lot to hide," she said, blurting out the last one by accident. She hadn't really meant to say all that but she wasn't thinking too clearly. He looked young though. Definitely younger than her seventeen years.

unlike zilya, and likely most teens his age, nikolai wasn't self-conscious. he didn't really see a need in worrying what others thought of him since his difference were sometimes glaringly obvious. like the language barrier, they way he moved in the dark and well, most obviously, his lack of ability to eat 'normal' food. not that that sort of thing had ever bothered him. he shifted a little, watching her curiously, not staring just looking. he had no concern on his state of dress since he had nothing to hide in his opinion. well, other than the obvious hence he was still wearing his underwear. he wasn't stupid after all, he knew about respect and decency. he just thought that since it was so late it was okay to just wander around in his boxers. it was okay right? after all, it wasn't like he'd usually run into anyone. or rather, usually run into anyone and let them live long enough they realised his state of dress. or lack there of.

he tugged at his own hair some, not in anger or stress just boredom and an effort to keep his hands occupied and try and keep himself distracted from his bodies urges. he smiled at her words, "you're the first person i've met here who speaks german.

[/i]" he nodded, grinning and waving a little as he found out her name was zilya. "hallo!" he chimed smiling brightly. he blinked and tilted his head a little before shrugging. "that's okay." he nodded, "i won't do anything to you though. if i do i'll get in trouble and 'herr guard' won't come and see me." he responded, trailing off with a pout at the end. he hated the rules here, stopping him seeing the other when he was bad. but he did sort of understand that it was because they were trying to get him to stop hurting people. he tilted his head some as he looked at her before coughing slightly, hand instantly covering his mouth.

"ah, sorry![/i]" he said quickly. manners were one of the most important things in his household. pleases, thank you's and words of apology were frequent occurrences after his return home, and back when he was a small boy.

Zilya smiled at that. It was always nice to find someone you had something in common with, even if it was only a language. "There's another.. He said his name is Lukas," she told him. "He's German," she let him know. They weren't particularly alone here. There were other people that they could both talk to should they feel the need to use a language other than English.

She smiled back at his grin. It was nice when people were happy. It was a good sign, it meant bad things were unlikely to happen and so far, despite a few awkward instances, this meeting had gone quite well, at least in her opinion. She had someone to talk to and no one got hurt. Zilya didn't exactly have high expectations for her encounters here at Pinewood.

She blinked a few times at his words. Well that was a bit of honesty right there. What exactly could he have done anyway? Not very much. He was just a kid.. Right? And Herr guard? Why did he need a guard? But wait.. Did he not just imply that the only reason he wasn't doing anything was this Herr guard? It was a reason at least but was he known for doing things he shouldn't? Was he dangerous and needed to be kept on a leash in the form of this guard? Her thoughts were running away again, multiplying and mutation into something frightening. Zilya had to stop herself there. Surely it wasn't as bad as that.

Zilya grew quiet again before sliding off her seat. "I should find something to eat," she said, going back to the fridge. One strawberry was hardly a midnight snack. She opened it again, finding some rockmelon.. It was a fruit, it would do. She brought out a piece and closed the door, heading back to her seat and sliding back into it. "Are you still hungry?" she asked, just a simple question since all he had were those strawberries.

nikolai loved finding people he had a link to - because it was very very rare that he did find someone like that. he was very pleased that he had though and that they were so lovely. he'd have hated for zilya to be mean or to be scared of him because he liked her and found her interesting. plus they could speak to one another which was a huge bonus in his opinion. after all, there weren't many people here who he could freely talk to. for two reasons. one, he was always under constant watch during the day in case he got hungry and two, the fact that he didn't speak english like the majority of people here. it sucked but at least he was sort of starting to understand it, just not speak or read it yet. but at least he was getting somewhere right? even if he wasn't really trying very hard. but considering he'd only been learning for a few months he's not doing that bad really.

"lukas? i will look for him." the french boy nodded, sticking to speaking german of course since they understood one another then. he shifted some as he stood there and looked around the room, trying to resist using his nose to pick something tasty - knowing find well poor zilya would be top of the tasty list. he nibbled on his own lip a little, trying to tide himself over mentally telling himself he'd look for meat once she was gone. though not self-conscious he didn't want her to think bad of him. he rocked a little on his toes before clambering back onto the bench, feeling better in this position than standing. if only because it was dark. if it had been light then he'd have been fine standing or possibly even joined zilya at the table. but, unfortunately for her, it was night at so she had to deal with the creepy bordering animalistic boy's quirks.

for her own benefit of course. after all, if he didn't keep calm and in control of himself she'd be a nice... snack. he watched her moved to the fridge and get out something else before inching back a little trying to think of a meat he liked that it wouldn't creep her out to watch him eat. since he did only really eat raw meat. sometimes it was okay cooked, depending what it was and how it was cooked but he preferred it raw. he twitched at the question and tensed before quickly shaking his head. "don't ask that. not in the dark.

[/b]" he mumbled. oddly enough he had more control of his hunger in the daylight hours, even though he was surrounded by his favourite meal all day. it was very odd to say the least. "it's dangerous." he added after a moments thought before shifting and leaning to open the fridge and look inside.

Zilya just smiled. He seemed nice enough. It was a little odd meeting this way but it was fun. Things were going well and he really didn't seem so scary at all. His behavior was a little odd. That rocking then getting onto the bench. It surprised her a little but Zilya managed to just shrug it off this time. She tried to think nothing of it. Everyone had weird quirks and this really wasn't high on the list of weird.

She stopped when he said not to ask that. That alone was odd enough but then he added the fact that it was dangerous. At this point, Zilya didn't see any danger. He looked perfectly normal except for a few odd quirks. It was hard to believe he could be dangerous now when he had been so nice.

"Would it help if I turned the lights on?" she asked innocently enough. If the darkness was a problem then that could easily be fixed. Though, thinking about it now, why would the darkness make any sort of difference and why would it make the situation any more or less dangerous? And what exactly was the danger in this situation? What was the worst that could happen?

nikolai wasn't the biggest fan of his diet. he knew it wasn't good - for anyone - but he couldn't help himself. he didn't choose to throw up when he ate cooked food, it was just how it happened. he frowned some and nibbled his lip as he crouched there on the bench, aware that he'd probably creeped zilya out a little by now. hopefully not too much because she seemed like a really nice person and he'd loved to be friends with her. he really could do with some friend's after all. friend's were good right? they would make him seem normal and maybe help him. he hoped that would be the case. because he really didn't want to live a life where he had to kill others just to live. especially not when he knew he'd just be killed when he was caught. because he couldn't ask julian and his family to clean up after him every day, thousands of people would die - for him. it wasn't right in his opinion.

but he was still terrified of his own death. he gnawed at his lip as he crouched there, rummaging through the fridge. he was tense, wary of his hunger getting the best of him. he was never sure when he had or hadn't eaten, because the hunger was always so random. sometimes he could go two or three days without eating, other times he was hungry for up to a full day, no matter how much he ate. he sniffed and sighed a little before blinking and looking at zilya as she spoke. he hesitated for a moment, thinking over it, before slowly nodding. "maybe...

[/i]" he responded as he carefully got down in preparation for the light being turned on. he shifted a little, adjusting his footing before he turned his back to zilya and rummaged through the fridge eager for something, anything. finding nothing he closed the door and took a step back, letting out another growl which matched the one from his stomach.

he looked around a little before turning and looking at zilya again. he nibbled his lip as he stood there, hands playing with his own hair in effort to keep himself in check. if he let the hunger take over he knew zilya would get hurt - or worse be killed. but if he freaked out about it he knew he'd trigger an asthma attack, and since he obviously didn't have his inhaler that would be annoying and likely get them both in trouble since they were both out of bed. "i... do you think i'm weird...?" he asked her warily, trying to distract himself with conversation. sometimes that was a tactic that worked, other times it wasn't. he hated it when it didn't work because then he got in trouble. he really did hate getting in trouble - that much was one hundred percent normal about him. because no normal person would actually like getting in trouble for something - right?

Zilya just sat back down and took a bite out of her rockmelon as she watched the boy. He was acting quite strangely now but she didn't want to judge. She just sat there happy to just keep an eye on him just in case.

He was just looking through the fridge. Zilya couldn't see anything wrong with that. She took another bite out of the fruit and continued to watch him before he spoke. Maybe was good enough. She slipped gracefully off her seat and moved to turn the light on before slowly wandering back over to the table, slice of rockmelon in her hand as she nibbled at it slowly.

The lights were still dimmed so that they could both see quite clearly without it being too bright or glaring in the kitchen. Zilya looked back up at him. He seemed far less dangerous now.. Just a boy with some interesting hair, in a kitchen, looking for food. It was all perfectly normal so when he asked his question, it was easy to answer.

Zilya just shook her head. "You seem fine to me," she told him with a smile. Everyone here had their problems but who had the right to judge what was weird and what was normal? Certainly not her. Zilya had problems on her own to deal with. "Do you think I'm weird?" she asked in response to his question.

silently in his head nikolai was counting. it wasn't that numbers or counting was a big thing to him, nothing like that at all. he just, used it to try and calm down, julian had started it with him a few years back. it didn't often work, but when he'd found someone he really didn't want to hurt and the hunger just wouldn't fade it was worth a try, right? after a while, when the lights turned on, he stopped counting. in stead he just kept his hands busy and tried to think of things to talk to zilya about wishing there was something he could eat in the fridge. he rocked a little on his toes as he played with his hair trying to stand properly, in a way that would make his mother proud. or, he hoped that was what he was doing anyway.

he eventually lowered his arms to his sides and bit down on his lip looking around the room once his eyes had adjusted to the light. he was aware that his hair was interestingly styled and things, he did it because it wasn't smart and if he didn't look the part of a prince then he couldn't be found - right? he didn't think he looked like a prince dressed like this with hair everywhere. he was just glad his mother wasn't aware of it - or he hoped she wasn't because he could be prepared for some angry letters then. he raised his left hand, biting down on his thumb as he watched her eat the rockmelon, not entirely sure what it was. he blinked before returning the smile, hand falling.

"really? thank you!

[/i]" he said with a huge grin before he quickly shook his head at her question, "no no, of course not! you're not weird in the slightest.[/i]" he assured her as he moved to get some more strawberries - two - to nibble as he looked through the freezer. he'd decided to give up and just eat frozen meat. it didn't often make him sick - though he wasn't a fan of having to heat it up because it hurt to eat it frozen solid. he rummaged through for a moment before finding something and taking it out. he then closed the freezer before going to the microwave and trying to work out how to work it to unfreeze his meat - but so it wouldn't cook it. cooked meat was 100% a no from him.
